we swiftly moved through the northern Redwood State Parks, headed straight for the tourist traps: "The Trees of Mystery", drive-through trees, that sort of thing. But then we were sidelined by the thrills of earning big bucks at the Golden Bear Casino. Until we drove up to the Casino, which wasn't much more then an awning. Bummer, but surely there will be another... we stopped a few times to ask for directions, we never did get a straight answer; so we drove on just hoping someone was smart enough to put up ginormous signs with blinking lights pointing to said tourist traps. We found "The Trees of Mystery" (no lights, but the largest Paul Bunyen you ever saw), and were asked if we wanted to ride the sky trail. We decided against that when the electricity went out for approx. 15 minutes. We charged ahead; with only the wind, rain, and small branches to try and detour us. But no, we had Faux-Poppy to cheer us on right past 90% of the Redwood State Parks in hope of seeing some redwoods. Eventually we found our way to the Avenue of Giants (a miracle without blinking lights); Faux-Poppy enjoyed the inside of a tree a trillion times her size; and I gingerly drove through a tree (petrified I'd drive into a tree), still no blinking, no ginormous signs, Oh joy for the tourtist trappings....Time to gamble. A few visible Casino bulletin boards later and we were ready to lay down some cash. That is if we could find one..... the old gas station/garage with sheets hanging from the windows, called Bob's Casino does not count. The sun went down, the fog moved in, the road got wet and two back roads later there was no Casino to be found (the Coyote Village Casino made out of a Tuff Shed is not exactly what we were thinking). We chose the Best Western over the Old Iron Wheel Motel only for the internet access. purely for internet gambeling.
